Djurgårdens IF are closing in on their first signing of the transfer window, with talented winger Angelo Hountondji Agbejoye just one medical examination away from completing a move to the Stockholm club.

According to Expressen, an agreement is already in place between the club and the Nigerian winger, and barring any unexpected developments, the deal is expected to be formally announced very soon.

Agbejoye has been linked with a number of clubs over the years. Most recently, German outlet Sky Sports reported that both FC Copenhagen and Portuguese giants Benfica had shown interest in the winger. Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet had also previously reported that Djurgården were pursuing the player.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Agbejoye has been connected to Swedish football. Last year, Expressen revealed that the player had visited Stockholm to get a feel for AIK — one of Djurgården's fierce city rivals — during a short trial period. Ultimately, AIK decided against signing him, instead choosing to bring in Zadok Yohanna from Nigerian side Ikon Allah FC.

That decision proved to be an extraordinary one for AIK. Yohanna was sold just weeks ago to Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League for a Swedish record transfer fee of 270 million Swedish kronor — underlining the quality of player AIK had unearthed from that market.

Now Djurgården hope Agbejoye can make a similar impact in the Swedish capital. If the medical goes smoothly, the Allsvenskan club will officially have their man — and the winger who once slipped through AIK's fingers could be about to make his mark on Stockholm football after all.
