Malmö FF are set to lose another prized academy gem to German football, with 16-year-old midfielder Samin Mujevic completing a move to Borussia Mönchengladbach in a deal worth approximately one million euros — around 11 million Swedish kronor.
According to Expressen, Mujevic has agreed a four-year contract with the German Bundesliga club, where he is expected to be part of the first-team setup rather than the youth ranks.
The Swedish teenager, born in 2009, had attracted serious interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs during the year. Both Italian giants Juventus and German side Eintracht Frankfurt were reported to be keen, making the competition for his signature fierce. In the end, it is Mönchengladbach who have won the race.
The move carries an added sense of familiarity for Mujevic. He will link up at his new club with fellow Swede Hugo Bolin, who made the same journey from Malmö FF to Mönchengladbach back in January of this year. The two are now set to become teammates in western Germany.
Malmö FF, one of Sweden's most decorated clubs and a consistent producer of top talent, have long been regarded as a stepping stone to the major European leagues. Mujevic's departure is the latest example of that pipeline in action.
Described as one of the most promising Swedish players of his generation, the young midfielder now heads to a club with a strong tradition of developing young talent — making Mönchengladbach a logical destination for a player with his profile.
