Malmö FF captain Pontus Jansson has opened up about his road to recovery from a serious ACL injury, revealing that one of his biggest motivations is that his son has never seen him play football.
The experienced defender, who has been sidelined with the knee injury, is working intensively on his rehabilitation with support from unexpected quarters. Jansson disclosed he has been receiving encouragement from national team colleague Kristoffer Asllani during his recovery process.
According to Expressen, Jansson's rehabilitation includes working with Zlatan Ibrahimović's former physiotherapist as part of his comprehensive comeback plan. The 33-year-old center-back is determined to return to action for Malmö FF in Allsvenskan.
In the wide-ranging interview, Jansson also reflected on his previous working relationship with coach Henrik Rydström, admitting their separation wasn't smooth. "Me and Henke had quite a messy divorce," Jansson said, speaking to Expressen.
The Malmö captain also addressed issues surrounding teammate Sergio Ramirez, explaining what went wrong in that situation. Jansson's honest assessment of various club matters demonstrates his leadership role at the Allsvenskan giants.
With Rydström now back coaching in Swedish football, Jansson's comments provide insight into the complex relationships within professional football as he focuses on his return to the pitch.
