Sweden manager Graham Potter has announced his 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, with several high-profile omissions causing controversy.

Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson and Barcelona winger Roony Bardghji have been completely dropped from the squad, alongside Celta Vigo's Williot Swedberg. "It's very difficult conversations to have. I have respect that it's tough for them. It's brutal. It's a World Cup dream that's extinguished," Potter said, speaking to Expressen.

Injured Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski also misses out despite his desperation to feature. "I've had several conversations with him and he's desperate to be involved, but sometimes you have to make a decision based on how the situation actually looks," Potter explained.

In a surprise inclusion, Ken Sema from Pafos returns to the squad after missing the previous call-up. Potter emphasized the importance of the winger's experience and positive energy for the tournament.

Sweden will face Tunisia on June 15, Netherlands on June 20, and Japan on June 26 in the group stage. The squad features Viktor Gyökeres from Arsenal and Alexander Isak from Liverpool leading the attack, with the team gathering on May 27 before departing for the USA on June 6.

Bardghji responded to his omission on Instagram by quoting Psalm 23, demonstrating his faith despite the disappointment.
